Wednesday September 29th

Read: 1 John 2:15-29

Learn: 1 John was written by the Apostle John, also referred to as the “disciple whom Jesus loved”, in the Gospel of John. This letter was likely written with the purpose of being read to the church in Ephesus, sometime around 70 AD. John focuses on many topics in his letter, chief among them is the assurance of eternal life to those who believe in Jesus. In this passage we see a focus on three things:

1. Do not love the world over God
2. Beware of false teachers (referred to as antichrists)
3. Abide in Jesus and have confidence in your beliefs

We must be confident in our beliefs and that confidence must be expressed boldly, not out of arrogance, but out of the assurance that Jesus is who He says He is. If we believe the truth, we must stand for truth. One day Jesus will come back. One day you will stand before Him. Will you be found as one boldly practicing righteousness and speaking truth? Or will you be one who is timid and silent?

Reflect: Have you been keeping your head down, hoping no one would bother you about your beliefs? Or have you been bold (not obnoxious) about what you believe? If Jesus came back today, would you be found standing for truth boldly, or would you be found hiding your faith from the world?

Pray: God, help me to be bold and confident in my beliefs. I know that many in the world don’t want me to stand for truth or tell them about Jesus. But I also know that the truth must be spoken, and everyone needs to hear it. Give me the strength to declare the truth of Jesus with confidence in you! In Jesus name, Amen.
