Daily Devotion: October 22nd 2021

Friday October 22nd

Read: Hebrews 13:5-6

Learn: There are two keys from this verse that we should take away. The first is that God himself has said “I will never leave you nor forsake you”. This comes to us from the book of Deuteronomy. There in that instance Moses is speaking to Joshua and preparing him to take the helm over the nation Israel. He tells him to do all that God has instructed him to do, not to deviate from it. Most importantly though, he tells Joshua what the Lord won’t do, and this is leave or forsake them. God is sure to go with his people at all times when they are called somewhere. God surely carries them forward and provides. He does not leave us once we begin the journey he calls us on, and he does not forsake us either. The second key to take away is that God is our helper, and because he is, we will not fear. It doesn’t say, “I shouldn’t fear”, or “I ought not fear”, there is no suggestion. It’s a declarative statement, “I will not fear”. Because God is our helper, we will not fear. Because he will not leave or forsake us and because he is our helper, we will not fear.

Reflect: As we walk day to day, and follow God on the path he has made for us, are we walking in full assurance that God is providing for us, that he is faithful to fulfill his promises, or are we still in doubt that he will do as he says? Lastly, are we resting in our helper, or are we still trying to make things work our own way?

Pray: God, help me to rest fully in your promises, not leaning right or left, but centered on your word. Help me to put my faith in you alone, not in the things of the world. Help me to realize you are the God of provision, the God who does not leave us or forsake us, the God that removes fear and doubt. In Jesus name, Amen.
