How it all started...
In the late 1980's the Southern Baptist Convention identified southeast Wichita as a prime location to start a new church. The new church began in the home of church planters BIll and Rosanne Trenton. Families from another local church, Sharon Baptist, joined in to help get the new church going.
Soon the home they were meeting in was too small and they sought out a new location. The church met at Beech Elementary School on Sunday mornings and then at Gammon Elementary School. On Sunday evenings they would hold services in a cosmetology school. Soon the church realized a permanent facility would be needed and they purchased 10 acres of land in South Wichita off of 31st Street near McConnell Air Force Base.
In 1991 the first phase of the church building was completed at 9221 E 31st Street South in Wichita. The church continued to seek God and minister to their community.

Expanding the vision...
In 1996 Dennis Burns became the Lead Pastor of Cedar Pointe. Along with his wife Peggy, they made the move from Oklahoma to Kansas. The church continued to grow and reach out to the community. In 2006 a new wing of the church building was completed with a larger space for events, a large kitchen, and expanded children's areas to better serve the community with
In late 2017 the church leadership started feeling that God was preparing the church to be a major force in a part of the city that was on the verge of extensive growth. They started praying for God to give them the vision and tools needed to reach out to a growing population so close to the church property. A decision was made to add a full time Associate Pastor to the staff to assist Pastor Dennis and oversee the day to day operations of the church. Jordan Golden was called and hired by the church to fill this position. In August of 2018, after growth in the kids ministry, Lachelle King was hired as the Childen's Director.

Where we are headed...
In early 2019 Pastor Dennis Burns retired from church ministry. Later that year the church membership voted unanimously to call Jordan Golden as Lead Pastor.
The church experienced many challenges during the COVID-19 pandemic but has pushed forward and kept doing ministry through innovation and new investments.
In August of 2021 a new K-5th grade school called Cedar Pointe Learning Academy was started at our church campus. CPLA is a private Christian school with unique teaching methods that enable kids to learn on their level and according to their style of learning. The first two years have been a major success and enrollment is increasing for next school year.
The future is definitely bright for Cedar Pointe! We hope you will come visit us soon and possibly join our family as we continue to seek God's will for our community!
